Bus Éireann, Ireland’s national bus company is supporting Meals on Wheels Dundalk this Christmas, appealing for contributions for the elderly and those with mobility issues in the area. On Thursday, 28 November a bus will be reserved for the day to accept donations from members of the public in Dundalk bus station at The Long Walk, from 9.30am to 3pm.

“Bus Éireann are proud to support Dundalk Meals on Wheels with our “Fill a Bus” appeal this year,” said Adrian O’Loughlin, Senior Regional Manager, Eastern Region. “Two years ago the generosity of the local Dundalk community exceeded all our expectations, we received thousands of items - filling the bus from top to bottom. The donations made a huge difference to those in need, we hope to build on that success again this Christmas”.

Meals on Wheels Dundalk was established in 1972 and supports 100 people in the locality with meals every week. “We are delighted to partner with Bus Éireann on the “Fill a Bus” campaign again this year and thank them for their continued support,” said John Hennessy, Chairman of Dundalk Social Service Council/Meals on Wheels. “These vital donations will be going directly to the people who need them most, we are continually grateful to the people of Dundalk for their generosity in supporting our Meals on Wheels service. We are currently in a position to look at the possibility of increasing our meals capacity to 120 recipients throughout the town of Dundalk. Suggested non-perishable goods for donation are: tea, coffee, powdered custard, tins of fruit, creamed rice, gravy granules, stock cubes, cooking oil as well as useful household products such as paper towels, tin foil, scouring pads, washing up liquid, disinfectant spray and disposable gloves.

“Carrying over 4 million passengers in the North East this year, Bus Éireann is at the heart of the community here in Dundalk,” continued Adrian O’Loughlin,” Together with our media partner LMFM we are asking you to please come and join us in the Bus Éireann station and help us ‘Fill a Bus’ for those in need”.

The Bus Éireann reserved bus will be parked in the Dundalk Station, on The Long Walk from 9.30am-3pm, Thursday, 28 November.
